Eighth Air Force Heavy Bomber Mission No. 72: 286 sent to attack airfield at Caen/ Carpiquet. 34 hit the primary target, 36 hit the airfield at Abbeville/ Drucat. Three aircraft lost.
Main day of the fighting at Enogai Inlet, on the north-western coast of New Georgia. American troops capture most of the position, eliminating a battery of Japanese coastal guns.
