Lt Harold T Bartlett piloting Curtiss Model E, 1911
Here we see Lt Harold T Bartlett at the controls of a Curtiss Model E (sometimes called the Curtiss A Type in US Navy service as the first four were given the serial numbers A-1 to A-4), during 1911. Bartlett went on to win the Navy Cross in 1918 and became an important early advocate of Naval Aviation after the First World War.
